Abstract
The objective of this study is to analyze Vietnam’s economic interests in China-Vietnam cooperation through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), particularly in the infrastructure investment sector, which serves as a strategic foundation for cooperation with China amidst geopolitical caution. The author employs the concepts of Economic Interests and Strategic Partnership, supported by Interdependent Liberalism Theory. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical framework, utilizing data collection techniques based on a literature review of relevant sources. The author finds that Vietnam’s involvement in the BRI is driven by national economic interests oriented toward development and economic growth. The research findings also indicate that Vietnam–China economic relations form an asymmetric economic interdependence, in which economic cooperation is maintained despite geopolitical caution. Thus, Vietnam’s involvement in the BRI constitutes a strategy to fulfill national economic interests while managing the dynamics of bilateral relations with China amid tensions in the South China Sea.
